Jeff Sessions, the US attorney general under Donald Trump, yesterday testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. After initially recusing himself from involvement into the Trump administration’s ties to Russia, Sessions reversed course and decided to speak. However, his statements yesterday yielded little to the investigation, as he refused to answer many questions posed by the committee. Like others before him, Sessions was chastised for refusing to be open, stating that the president has the right to confidential advice. He said he did not know whether Trump and Comey’s conversations had been recorded.
FINSUM: Sessions really appears to have backed Trump with his statements. Perhaps his change of heart came following last week’s hearings, when it became very clear that one could simply refuse to answer questions he didn’t want to. Will the FBI investigation ultimately force Sessions and others to speak? The silence is not helping the political tension in any way….
